6 month leases

Are 6 month leases common in London? Or are 1 year leases the norm?

I don't know about London, but it's not uncommon here in York.  Dh has lived places with a 6 month lease that then went into a rolling month to month contract.  When we moved out of our last house that went to the rolling month to month, we just had to let them know the month before we moved out.

1 year is the norm but 6 months isn't uncommon, IME.

The two places I've lived in started out with six month tenancy agreements. This is also in York.
