The bill has been PASSED!

I was reading about this earlier in the week.  The fee only applies to non-citizens, if I understand it correctly, and the fee is good for two years.

Charging tourists extra to fund an international travel promotion to the US seems to be a bit  convoluted.

Your right I should have added for non US citizens...but still charging anyone to come into the US is crap. But I know other countries charge you to enter and leave...like Barbados charges you when you leave..

MeShell, when did you have to pay it?  Was it at your point of entry, or did you pay online before your trip?  What forms of payment did they accept?

We had to pay a departure tax when we left Jamaica after our wedding.  And they want cash.  I think I also paid one in South Africa, and if I remember correctly, Vancouver BC had a departure tax that went to the airport.

Here are some departure taxes in the Caribbean:

Antigua and Barbuda: $20; Aruba: $36.50;Bahamas: $15;Barbados: $27.50;Belize: $39;Bonaire: $32;Cayman Islands: $20;Bermuda: $29;Dominica: $20;Dominican Republic: $20;Grenada: $13;Haiti: $30;Jamaica: $20;St. Kitts and Nevis: $20;St. Lucia: $26

So, I guess the $20 for the US is not bad, but on the other hand, these small islands are not on par with the financial strength of the US, so it is a bit like comparing apples and oranges.

It's an airport improvement fee. Highway robbery. Now included in the price of your ticket. And apparently many Canadian international airports have them.  >:(

We had to pay it as we were leaving....I think it was at check in for our flight home...and all I had was cash...

I looked online and Barbados has increased the amount as well...I just googled Barbados exit tax....
