Murder Mystery Weekends
« on: March 07, 2010, 09:39:34 PM »
Anyone done one?  Anyone have any thoughts?

My birthday is coming up and I wanted to go on holiday, but dh's work won't allow him any time off until April.  Since it's going to be after my birthday anyway, I thought it would be fun to look into doing a murder mystery weekend.  I LOVE mystery novels and tv shows, so why not participate.  I've had a look at a few sites, and some places show murder mystery weekends much later in the year, near Halloween or in November which is absolutely fine.  I don't mind when it is, it would just be something fun to look forward to.  I'd really like to do one in Scotland or Ireland or even Wales, but don't mind too much where it is, I just want to try one.  Any thoughts, or help on nice hotels that run one would be greatly appreciated and any personal experiences on one would be fab. Thanks!

My only experience is a games done at a friend's house for a birthday. You could try a party type kit and see what you think? May be cheaper / more flexible?

Just a quick search:

One with professional actors might be fun, though! And to go somewhere else in the UK, of course, is always fun.  :)

Thanks MLG!  We have done games at people's houses before so I thought it would be fun to try one at a hotel.  Plus, I just wanted to book it and not do the whole planning a party thing.  ;)

I'd be curious to know your experience once you've gone on one!  :)

Sorry I can't really add to your query.....

My guess is it's really down to the acting skills of the paid actors.

Yeah, I think it definitely will come down to the actors.  I'm looking at a couple, but I wish there was an independent site where they could be rated by people who attended.  I'm going to have to do some more research this weekend.

I googled them here in Ireland and found this site: http://www.murdermysteryireland.com/

DH thinks a friend of ours did one of these. I'll try to find out more and get back to you!

Thanks!  I was looking at the site last night and I've book marked it to check it out in more detail this weekend! :)

Please do let me know if your friend went to one and what they thought.  That would be so useful!

Hmmm....seems that what she did was a house party where a friend organized everything. However, she did mention the place in Foxford, Co Mayo that is highlighted on this website. I guess they were thinking about it for a Christmas party one year, but didn't go. Seems it's well known around the country, so it could be good!

Awesome!  It was one of the first ones I came across and it looked good, but you never know.
