Paris Bound, Mini-Honeymoon at last!!!!
« on: August 11, 2004, 01:29:28 PM »
Hi All,

Well, Richard and I have finally booked our mini-honeymoon. (I am hoping for the long one soon, maybe, I hope, PLEASE!!!!)  We will not be making it to Australia this year, but we are going to go to Paris for a few days.  Funny, growing up that is always where I saw myself going on a honeymoon.  While I have been there before, it was always for a day or two, so I am hoping some of you can give us some tips on where to go what to see.  Rich has never been or he has about 21 years ago, so he does not remember much.  I just finished The Da Vinci Code, so I can't wait to check out the Louvre and see all the things they talked about in the book.  Thank you for your ideas!!

Hmmm...depends on what you would like to do.  Me being the ever Goth absolutely HAD to do Pere La Chaise.  NO WAY you could keep me from it.  However, if you go: BUY THE MAP that they sell once you go in.  We didn't and regretted it and the map will tell you where all the famous folks are.

We also took a boat trip down the Seine, which you can catch across the road from the Eiffel Tower.  I think it was like 7 or 8 Euros.  Not an ungodly amount of money and it was quite a nice ride.  We really enjoyed it.

Eiffel Tower is always good.  The Louvre is good on a Wednesday because you can get in for a reduced price after 3 pm and they're open late on Wednesdays.

Notre Dame was nice, big and very airy cathedral like but you have to pay if you want to go on the tour of the towers, and they only went at certain times of the day.  You may want to check that out a bit further.

Hope you have a great time!

You must, must, must make a trip out to Giverny and see Monet's home.  Whether you're a fan of his or not.

It's exactly as you would imagine it.  A li'l piece o'heaven.

I believe it's a full day, but no more.

Oh, and when you get out at the train station, and they tell you that you can walk from there, do not believe them. ;)

But the blisters were well forgotten when we arrived.

Wow Stacey...have a great time! I've never been to Paris, but once I'm permanently in the UK that is one of my definites to visit! (Once I find someone I trust enough to keep the twins for a few nights? Or, import my mother? "Hey mom, come visit us...and while you're here I'll be running off to Paris for a few days!")

I am sure the two of you will have a romantic time!

We did the Paris weekend thing right before we got married. All Franks friends from work called it the "Dirtly little Paris weekend" hmmmm....thats nice.
We also did the Seine boat trip which was very nice. Also Notre Dame and Place de Concorde which was very expensive by the way. I remember seeing security guards standing outside Cartier.
Are you flying? We did a last minute coach trip. HUGE mistake. I wouldnt recommend that sort of abuse to anyone. :)
Have fun!

Amen to that! I took my daughter there on a 3 day trip. I can definitely see where the man got his inspiration. I took plenty of gorgeous photos of his gardens :)

Along those same lines, if you do LIKE Monet, be sure and go to Musee' Dorsay, where many, many of his paintings are!

Thanks!!!  Those are great, I will discuss with Richard.  Since he has not been really, I will let him decide if he wants to do certain things!  I like the boat trip idea and I dig Monet.  I'm a huge art fan, so that sounds fab!  I'm really excited for the food and shopping!!!  I plan on treating myself with the money from my first paycheck ;D  What should I get?  A bag is a must of course!!!  Where should I go to shop?  Also where are the good places to eat?  I don't want any chains, just cozy cafe type places.  Yippeee, I can't wait!!!!

Be forewarned....a cup of coffee at a sidewalk cafe will set you back about £4-5......lol.....but the ambience is worth it!

I have a vague recollection of some enormous mall where you can get all the topline cosmetics for very very cheap... if I remember the name, I'll let you know.  That's all I can remember for 'bargain' shopping in Paris...
Then of course, you won't need to do that since you'll be getting all your skin care and cosmetic needs from me   ;D

I had the opposite thing happen.. sat down at a nice cozy restaurant, saw a cup of coffee was only 1 Euro 50 and went with that... 5 minutes later they bring out a WEE MUG half the size of a child's play tea set cup ;)  I'm sure they had a good laugh at the naive look on my face  :D

The most memorable thing for me there was talking a walk along the Seine around 9:30 PM.. saw the Eiffel Tower light up.  The traffic noise was hidden by the bank of the river and there was noone around.  Just a lovely little stone bench for Sean and I to cuddle on and watch the reflection of all the lights on the water. :)

Well, my mother always said, if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all :-\\\\

The food and wine were great!  Richard and I love to treat ourselves that way!  Well, most of the food was great at least :P  Not the crepe I had at an outdoor cafe, but hey!

We did a lot of walking A LOT!!!  Needless to say my feet were in agony on the last day!!!

Shopping was interesting, I do that a lot now with the job and all.  People in France or Paris, not sure do NOT que, AT ALL!!!  I had some nasty looks a lot of personal space issues!  But hey, I got great shoes, bags, coats, clothes, etc anyway so pooey on them!!!

Didn't get to go see any of the arty stuff, but if we go back we will.  Next stop Barcelona!!!  (After a trip to NY, yeah!!!!!  in October and Puerto Rico at Christmas!)  I'd love to do a girly weekend away!  Not sure where yet.
