car alarms

I want to ask this here, to save me the embarrassment of going into a shop and asking, incase i make myself look like a dumbass! but we are going to store our muscle car away in a storage container and i was wondering if there is a car alarm that exists that if the alarm on the car goes off (it will be about 20 miles away) if there is somehow we can be notified that it is going off?

this car is priceless to us and we want to make sure we take every measurment neccessary to keep it safe

Hmm, you might be able to get some sort of system that will be able to locate the car (something like OnStar?), but I'm not sure if it would be on all of the time (for example, you might have to wait and see if the car is in the container, and then call if it's not, at which point they will turn something on so you can figure out where the car is).

Hi there

Like anything of a similar nature, the car alarm needs to be fitted correctly and properly in order not to set off false alarms.

These GSM based 'alerting' systems are good, but I'd question their performance if your car is sealed up in a steel container in amongst other steel containers in a storage yard/facility. I'd have doubt they'll pickup a signal!

Is there any reason your putting the car into containerised storage? and for how long? reason I ask is that you'll need to do some basic long term car preparation before doing so. Things like sealants, gaskets, battery & electricals, seals etc all need to be looked at prior so that when you bring the car out of storage, you've the best chance all will be intact and able to function nicely without you firing the engine and making some expensive to fix sounds!

Related to the above, your battery will probably go flat if you leave it connected, so the alarm would be useless anyway. If you disconnect the battery, you'll incur extra charges I'm sure if you need a power supply to keep the alarm working, and that's if theres a signal able to be used!

Cheers, DtM! West London & Slough UK!

its a mopar muscle car. we are putting it away because its not a every day car. we will only use it at santa pod raceway and also to go cruising in occassionally. We will be storing it long term, Reason for the storage is because it cant be left out infront of our home, due to us being near the sea (the weather from it) and also we dont want to leave a car like that outside for everyone to see incase it gets stolen or damaged. i can honestly say theres  probably no other car like it in the entire UK. and the amount of money we paid for it and the amount of money put into it restoring it, we dont want to risk anything happening to it. we are restoring it now before we put it in to be sprayed and then be put in storage. so we are doing the whole seals, gaskets and etc
