Jewlz, I personally would just toss anything I've got on hand. So I know I've got some wheat germ, dried blueberries & cranberries, chopped walnuts & pecans, some ground almonds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, dried coconut, etc etc. I've never tried wheat bran but a little would probably be fine! I just have a hunt around the pantry and toss in a bunch of stuff.
And yeah I make my own applesauce periodically (especially in the fall when apples are cheap) - peel, core and chop up a bunch, chuck 'em in a saucepan and add water until you can see it peeking through. Then when they're soft, whizz with a stick blender. I have a bunch of little round tupperwares I found at a pound shop that are almost exactly 1 cup so I throw a bunch of applesauce into those and in the freezer. That way if I've got a recipe (like lots of diet baking recipes!) that calls for applesauce, I just have to defrost one.
Though I'm hopefully driving to Holland in a few weeks so I'm going to stock up on giant jars of applesauce there. They do it the American way there and you can get the unsweetened stuff, too.
