American/Canadian Sportsperson or Military
« on: May 17, 2010, 08:35:44 PM »
Okay- I admit I am completely grasping at straws here. At the school where I work we are in the process of having a whole school project to appreciate and understand immigrants in the UK. Each form group was given an area of the world to study and we are ending the project with a big world festival. My form groups area is the 'tiny area' of The Americas.

I wanted to invite an sportsperson from this part of the world to the school to talk about their experiences and maybe have a workshop in their sport- or a military person. I have sent several emails and made some phone calls but had no luck. I am not stuck on the sportsman/ military idea- but the school is for boys with social, behavioural, emotional difficulties- therefore they are a tough audience and thought these were areas that would attract their attention.

The school is located in Cheshire....anyone know anyone who might be up for this challenge?!? Any of you brave enough to try to capture their attention with your story? :)

I think there are a few American professional footballers here.  Perhaps do a search on American pro soccer players and see if you can get in contact with their club.  I'm sure they would probably like positive publicity like that.

Have tried this-- unfortunately can't get any responses! Tried a local professional basketball team that has quite a few american players-- no luck there either :(

Frankie Simek who plays for Sheffield Wednesday's from St. Louis, Missouri.  I know Sheff's a bit of distance from Cheshire, but never know unless you try.   :-\\\\

We would love to help but unfortunately, we'll be back in Canada by then.  It's too bad, because DH thought it would be cool..
