Moving from Florida to Berkshire
« on: June 01, 2010, 12:59:30 AM »
Hi everyone. I'm moving to the UK soon, because of marriage. I have visited the UK twice and love it, but as my hubby says visiting someplace is dif. then living there. Im not sure what part of Berkshire we will be moving to.  Anyways anyone who has moved due to marriage, how long did your visa take?  I know it can happen fast. Im just a bit nervous about moving, but at the same time cant wait.

Welcome to UKY!

Your hubby is right, living here is a whole different ball of wax to visiting.

Right now there are some major changes in the way Consulates are processing visas. It appears that Spousal Settlement visas (not marriage visa that's for fiance(e)s not spouses) are going to take about 2-3 months for processing. This change is starting today so check back later this week and we should know more then.

Have a look over to the Visa & Citizenship board and you'll see lots of people currently going through this exact process.

Welcome!

I cannot comment on the visa since I moved several years ago, but I can comment on Berkshire - it's lovely! I moved from Clearwater to Reading for my hubby.

Best of luck & I hope your process goes smoothly.  ;)

If he's just your boyfriend then you probably won't qualify for a visa. I'd get that sorted out before you make any plans. Just my 2p.

How about making your own introduction post so we can get to know you a bit better and see if we can help point you in the right direction.

Hi....well, i been living in south Florida for about 3 years, I'm a permanent resident (not citizen ) Venezuelan girl, we want to get married but for the moment i just want to go and visit, my boyfriend comes to visit me every 4 months or so so now is my turn. Unfortunately me being a resident doesn't give me the privilege to apply for his visa, i mean the waiting times are ridiculous, 3 years or so, so the only choice is me moving there after we get married. For now i just planning on visit him for a few weeks...I'm really excited ! scared very scared ! but mostly excited !! i was asking in another post about how hispanics are perceived in general, even though i don't have the "typical look" I'm obviously very Latina and very proud of it...i just hope i wont be the "freak" of the town lol ...

Hi and welcome to the UK.  I am hoping my settlement visa goes through and if it does, will be heading over myself.  However, I had visited England once before last Spring and then moved there from July through November.  So, as a temporary transplant I can tell you that England is a lovely place and the people are very welcoming and kind.  You should have no issues in terms of liking where you live.  There may be a few bumps along the way like certain things you are used to getting here in the US that you might not get at all or easily over there, but small price to pay for happiness with someone you love.

Good luck!
I'm an American chick no matter where I roam...
