Girdiron Withdrawal
« on: August 18, 2004, 12:56:20 PM »
Does anyone know of any good sports bars/pubs to watch American football?  I'm really talking about Steeler football, but I know I'm not going to get that lucky.

I'm already starting to miss it and it's just the pre-season right now...

whereabouts are you Aaron? the sports cafe in piccadilly circus is probably your best bet, they have tons of screens and show quite a bit of US sport, sometimes they will put it on just for you if they're not too busy; gets quite horrible there in the evenings though, especially at weekeneds, hope you enjoy disco music with your gridiron!

Aaron,

Huge Vikings fan here in the Coventry area.

Have yet to find a pub that shows any NFL games, at least in my neck of the woods.  There is a half-decent website for UK NFL fans; they may have more info for you:

Sky Sports Extra shows two live games every Sunday; unfortunately they choose the two games you get to see.  Channel 5 also shows the ESPN Sunday Night game live, but with a 1:30 am (Monday) kickoff, it makes it tough to get to work on Monday Morings

I've never seen NFL football shown in any pubs here but I usually tend to avoid the standard sports bar.

The site that Ed posted is good for a fix. Luckily, we have a TIVO so it records all the games that are shown on Channel 5 and I don't have to miss out on that seriously needed beauty sleep....but sadly they aren't always showing the best team of all....the Eagles.  ;) It's like a blackout every week!

Otherwise, if I'm home and the DH isn't around, I'll listen to the game online while surfing and eating my pretzels and drinking my beer.  8) Not as good as being there but it's the best I can manage.  :-\\\\

Same goes for hockey.  :( :(

If you are in London, Bodean's in Soho (Poland St) shows NFL games on Sunday nights.  They have quite good BBQ too.   It's a restaurant, not a bar, so you have to order food w/ your drinks.  On the plus side, they have the volume turned up so you can hear the announcers.
