Dell AC Power Adapter

My power adapter is falling apart. Can I purchase a new one in a store? Is there a non-Dell one that is compatible? Or, do I need to order one from the Dell website?

Nahhh doesn't need to be Dell....I have a lil Acer laptop and just a plug no brand or maybe HP to get power to it.

As long as the voltage is right and the connection fits together forget the brands.  Do you have a local computer shop you can walk in with yours and see if you can grab a used one for close to nothing.

Hubs just uses what he calls a "kettle cord," which I am guessing is just a regular plug. Much cheaper than getting a special power cord designed for use with the PC. And he REALLY loves his PC, so if it was better to use the designated cord with it, I'm sure he would do that. 

Most laptops have proprietary plugs, so you can't jsut swap them.  You can buy a laptop adaptor set that gives you a whole bunch of plug types. 

Jewlz, is your husband's a desktop?  Those all have the same type of plug, but might be rated differently.

His is a desktop PC, otherwise known as the Uber Gaming Machine.  I also use a cord like that for my iMac since I only had the US power cord when I moved here and neither of us has had any trouble.

Well, I totally scored! I had to go to my husband's office to pick up a form and I thought I'd ask their admin if she knew what I had to do. She goes, 'Oh, we have an extra one here because someone left it after a meeting!' This happened months ago and I actually remember them trying to find the owner, but being unsuccessful. She gave it to me and it works perfect! But, thanks for all your replies because now I know what to do if it happens again!
