DCF, i130, g-325a, photo requirements
« on: June 14, 2010, 08:47:21 PM »
I've searched for an answer to this question but I'm still stumped.

I must send a photo of myself and of my spouse with our g-325a forms but I don't know if they require US-type passport photos or if UK passport photos are okay.  The official website simply states The photos must measure exactly 2 inches by 2 inches.  The customer''s head, measured from the bottom of the chin to the top of the hair, should be between 1 inch and 1-3/8 inches.

We did the Sainsburys photo booth and got 4 pics.  The head measurment is within those guidelines but to achieve the 2x2 inches there will be a white border around the edges.

Is anyone an expert on this topic?  Thank you!!

Photo booth pictures are not acceptable as the pictures end up being UK passport size. You need to go to a local camera shop (we went to a Jessops) and request US Passport photos. We paid £7 each.

Snappy Snaps will also do US passport-size photos. I've applied for three US visas in the past and have had to submit special US-size photos (2 inches x 2 inches) for all of them. I used Snappy Snaps and paid £12 for 2 in 2003, about £14 for 2 in 2007 and then about £10 for 4 in 2009 (they'd just put their prices down).

You can also get photos done inside the US embassy when you attend the interview if you don't have the correct photos with you... there's a booth in the interview waiting area.

If you're confident in your picture-taking ability you can also take your own pictures and resize them on www.epassportphoto.com/.  They have different countries (and therefore different dimensions) that you can select from a dropdown menu.  After you upload and fit your digital picture to the dimensions on their website they'll give you a downloadable link to a sheet of 6 passport size photos, which you can then print through any regular digital photo printing service, like Boots or Snapfish.  It ends up only costing as much as one regular sized photo print (about 10 to 25p).  Their website even has all of the guidelines you'll need for how to take your photo (such as the background color, what not to wear on your face, etc.)

If you're at all concerned I'd recommend getting it done professionally to eliminate the stress, but I used epassport when I needed a UK-sized photo for my visa app when I was in the U.S. and they were fine, and DH and I have carried on using them for driving licenses and such.

For UK visa applications made in the US you can submit US standard passport photos...no need to bother trying to get UK dimensions.

When I had to renew my US passport, I didn't have anywhere to go easily to get US sized photos. So I took my photo in good light, against a white background and photoshopped it to the right size. That worked out just fine for me, but YMMV.
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

I've been googling "Ready to Interview Checklist" trying to find out what's required after I-130.  (I'm going "home" for a visit and would like to gather anything I might need while I'm there.)  But I can't find it anywhere.  Any ideas?
Thank you!!!

How annoying...they seem to have redone the US Embassy in London's website within the last few weeks and it is just that little bit different that it took me ages to navigate to this page.

http://london.usembassy.gov/interview_documents.html

Is this what you were looking for?  This is the documentation you would need to bring with you to the interview (after you submit the DS230 and DS2001)
