Buying ticket with American billing address?
« on: June 15, 2010, 02:43:59 AM »
Hello all,

My boyfriend is currently looking into plane tickets to come visit me in July.  We found a very reasonable flight from Belfast to Newark, but for some reason he was taken to the American site, not the British one.  When he switched over to the British site, the airfare practically became the same but in pounds, not dollars (700USD to 700 GBP).

I'm wondering if I would be able to possibly book the ticket for him using my billing address/credit card, and then have him just pay me back later.  I'd do it through the American site, but the ticket would be for him (Belfast-Newark round trip).

The site claims that airfares are calculated based on billing addresses.

Does anyone see a problem here?  Has anyone else done this successfully?

My dad has purchased tickets for us from the US using the American site. It hasn't been a problem at all.

Yeah, that's no problem. I always check both US & UK sites before purchasing tix to the US. It's weird that the prices could be so different, but they are :P

Thanks everyone!  I was just a bit worried that they'd catch on when the passport holder's information didn't match the same country as the billing address.  Glad to see this will work, as we'll be saving quite a bit of money this way.  :)

Could I ask what the site was? I'm looking for transatlantic flights in July and can't find anything under $850.

I was just using the Continental.com website.  They're the only airline that offers a direct flight from Belfast, so I was kind of limited on my price options.  The final ticket price ended up being $859 USD.
