Favorite Food?
« on: August 19, 2004, 12:22:47 AM »
Hi :)  I was just wondering what's sort of become everyone's favorite foods here.  We talk about things we occasionally miss from the states, but I'm wondering what you've taken to most here.  I didn't include an 'other' option just because I wanted to see, out of those listed, which were most popular. Sorry I haven't got any Irish, Scottish, or Welsh listed.. as I don't know regional dishes there!  And I also don't know the first thing about vegetarian dishes.. so I've included that as a general option since I don't know specifics. :)

Anyway.. my favorite is probably a good Indian.  So what about the rest of you?  :D

Had to say Kebabs!  LOVE THEM TO BITS!  Man, a shish kebab and some chips, I'm frothing at the mouth as we speak!  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

I put Meat sandwiches/Pasties, because I think the steak pie is possibly the world's most perfect food...but you included the BOOZE!  It was so hard not to vote for that one!  The only reason I didn't is because I love all sorts of drink, not just British, so it doesn't seem exclusively British to me.

I had a hard time wording the question right.. I guess I meant like, the British variety of whatever is listed ;)  Or the way it's done in the UK.. Beer you don't find in the U.S. or veggies that are hard to come by in America.. fizzy drinks like Lilt or Ribena juice that aren't available here.. that sort of thing.  :)

Has anyone tried a chicken doner?!!  YUMMMMMMM.
My local kebab shop puts their doner meat into a folded NAAN bread instead of pitta bread!  That is just pure gorgeous!

Well, I have to rule out the Indian much as I like it. Mom's family lived in India in the 1950s so I grew up on homemade curries in the US! Consequently, I'm quite fond of the Sunday roast. Yes, we did roasts back home, but usually only for holidays. I don't like them here every Sunday by any means, and I prefer to do them myself to eating out, but darn, they're good!  :)
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

definitely depends on the day, nothing can surpass a good fry-up on a lady day or 'the morning after', but then again, the sunday roast has caught my fancy as well. i suppose i've just taken to the english spirit of eat til you burst! unfortunately, i haven't really caught the 'walking is fun, lets stay so skinny that eating's impossible' spirit as of yet!  ;)
if it isn't one thing, its my mother . . .

My local grocer sells homemade samosas. Veggie and meat.  I've seen the ladies delivering them from their home. They're looooovely.

However, that's not my favorite thing.

It would be the deserts! Sticky Toffee Pudding. If I died tomorrow I'd be a happy woman.
