How difficult is it to get children enrolled in a school mid-year?

My plan at the moment (not completely set in stone) is to be in the UK by March. However, I was wondering if getting my two children enrolled in school would be? Also, I would preferrably like to get them enrolled in a Jewish school but if that would be too difficult I would pick a different school until the following year.

It's hard to tell because I imagine every school will be different - it's probably going to depend on whether the schools have any spaces left to take a new child mid-year and whether the schools have a policy regarding this. The best thing to do is to contact the individual schools now and find out the situation from them.

The UK school system is different to the US in that you aren't guaranteed a place at a local school... if all the nearby schools are oversubscribed, you won't get in. Most schools will have a 'catchment area', so families living within that area will get first priority and it can be difficult (sometimes impossible) to get into a school if you live outside its catchment area.

I had no problems registering my daughter in the middle of the year...and there were a few other students who joined in the middle of the year.  As ksand24 says, it mostly just depends on where you are living and how crowded the school is.  Some of the posters for this forum have found it nearly impossible but others have had no difficulty at all.
