Law & Order: UK
« on: August 12, 2010, 09:36:35 PM »
I just saw this pop up on the guide while I was perusing through the channels.  I never knew it existed!

Now, as a Law & Order enthusiast for many years (thanks to my mom) I am excited at the prospect of Law & Order episodes that I haven't already seen.

Has anyone watched it?  Is is good?  I don't know why I'm asking, I'll probably watch it anyway.  ;) :P

I have watched some of the episodes, and it is not bad if you are not familiar with the US series, because they are not new stories, but scripts that are re-tooled for the UK.

As a L&O enthusiast, I am pretty familiar with the stories and can recognize the plots, so there are not a lot of surprising twists.  But it is interesting to see how the UK law system works, both in its similarities and differences to the US system.

I've not watched the  US version, just the UK version and I really like it, the episodes with freema agyeman character and the doctor were very good.

Also I find Jamie Bamber to be insanely gorgeous <3

I love Jamie Bamber, but I thought it was terrible.

That said, I only watched the first three episodes, so it might have found its feet later on.

Hmm, that's a bit of a bummer that they just took scripts from the US one but I am interested to see how the whole legal proceedings thing is done.  I think I'll record a couple of episodes and give them a watch when I have time.  To be honest, I'm easily entertained.  :)

It's definitely a grower, it had a shaky start but kicks in about half way S1. The end episodes of S1 are great.

To be honest, I'd watch Jamie Bamber cleaning his house. (Especially if he did it shirtless :P :) )

I love the US Law & Order, and I love Jamie Bamber, Ben Daniels, and Freema Agyeman, but I thought this was crap.  The quality of the acting from the minor characters was dire.  They clearly have a tiny fraction of the budget of the US program (or, well, if they don't, they're definitely doing something wrong).  I love the original because it seems so authentic (well, compared to most TV shows).  It's very matter-of-fact, no-nonsense.  This.. didn't seem believeable at all.  And it suffers for it.  I remember one episode about a dead high school student -- I saw them questioning a woman who looked about 30 years old -- turns out she was supposed to be a classmate of the dead girl!

I wish it was better, and I'll probably give it another chance one of these days -- but I thought it was disappointing.
