Sent off my visa application!
« on: August 15, 2010, 05:52:17 PM »
I'm BRAND spanking new to this forum. So..Hi!

My now-husband and I met in Australia while we were both backpacking in early 2009. We traveled together and lived in the back of a station wagon for majority of our adventure. We parted ways when I had to go back to the US. He came over to the US on his way back to the UK. We went back and forth for about a year before we finally decided to tie the knot.

Originally we were going to settle in the US, but after much thought and discussions, we decided for me to apply for a Settlement UK visa.

I sent off our application package yesterday, but of course I'm thinking of all the things I may have messed up on.

I gave 4 months of my detailed bank statements, but they were printed from online -- the only way I receive them.

I included all his documentation, but it was scanned over to me so we could process it as quickly as possible.

I'm worried I didn't include all originals!!! I know all the requests were ticked off, but I'm extremely worried we'll be denied after spending quite a bit of money for things such as original documentations.

I guess it isn't much of a question as more of a rant. Just freaked. We paid for priority service, so I'm hoping to hear within 15 days whether we're approved or denied. If we're denied -- I'm not sure I can go through this again (monetarily or mentally!)

So. Thanks for listening :-)

Hi, welcome to UKY!

You really should have sent original documents or certified copies, but hopefully, you'll still have success with your application.  Best of luck for a positive outcome.

From Worldbridge:

Original documents

You should provide original documents. Failure to submit original documents may mean your visa application is delayed or refused. If you are not able to include original documents you should send certified or notarised copies.

Did you include the original marriage certificate?  That's probably the most important thing.  That and your husband's passport.  I'm guessing you don't have the original of that?  An uncertified copy is OK, but only if you include his original long-form birth certificate.

Honestly, this may or may not be a problem.  Technically, you are required to send originals, but sometimes applications are approved without them.  Either way, there's nothing you can do now, you'll just have to wait and hope for the best.

Oy! I feel so stupid -- not sure how I overlooked that information. I included, of course, all my documents as originals. And definitely included our original marriage certificate. It's his documentation that isn't. We were so quick to put it together to get it processed -- this could easily be denied. BUMMER.

Thanks for the replies though. Nothing I can do but wait to hear the good (*fingers crossed*) or bad news.

No advice but maybe they will contact you and request the originals instead of flat out denying you.  Good luck!

We had someone here who recently sent out a student visa application, and got a request to send additional documentation to the consulate instead of the application being refused outright.  Hopefully, if lacking original or certified documentation is a problem, someone will contact you or your sponsor and request the proper documentation be sent over ASAP.  They may or may not allow it, but it's not without precedent.

Best of luck!
