and "Hopback summer lightning" by another brewer who's name I forget.

Hopback is the brewery, Summer Lightning is the beer.

A lot of the breweries around me are now doing carry kegs, which is lovely, because it's as close as you can get straight from the cask.  Managed to get a perfectly good keg that was just about to go out of out date of Orkney Clootie Dumpling for £7.  8ish pints for £7? Perfect ,and the beer is perfectly fine.   ;D

I used to drink Newcastle brown ale back in Maryland.  Anyone have a suggestion for a mild tasting beer here?  I can't have strong ale anymore, due to digestive problems.

If anyone is curious about trying real ale, the Wetherspoons  Real Ale Festival is back on again from today through 29 March.

If you want lower alcohol and not hoppy a mild ale might be the ticket.  Ask around at local supermarkets for a good mild ale.  Should be 3-3.5% alcohol.  Some of the dark milds are delicious.

I used to like this one

Helensburgh beer festival tonight and tomorrow.  It's not a CAMRA fest, and I haven't been since it moved from the Victoria Halls to the Sailing Club a few years ago, so not sure how good it will be, but I think we're going along to check it out tonight.

I'm reviving this thread, as I've identified another couple of real ale drinkers on the forum!  :)

My current favourite beers are Marble Manchester Bitter, Abbeydale Deception, Ossett Silver King... and just about anything in a cask from Salopian.

Windswept Brewery's APA is one of my favourites out of the cask right now.

Black Isle Brewery just opened a pub in June and whilst I have yet to actually make it there, I'm eager to do so.  Their beers are always good, especially when they're poured from a cask.

Oh yeah, that one's nice... I had it at a fest in Carlisle.

Glasgow Real Ale Festival begins today, and continues through to Saturday night, at The Briggait.

I'm not working there this year (YAY), so going along after work today as a punter.  I have a few items on my 'must drink' list for tonight, so hopefully they're all on:

Abbeydale Deception
Lytham Ice King
Loch Lomond Dr Peppercorn saison
Marble Pint
Ossett Silver King
Rat Raturday Night Fever
Rat Reservoir Rats
Redemption Iced Tea pale ale
Olivers sweet perry

Good luck with your quest!

I did manage to get all the beers on my wish-list, apart from Deception, but given that I will be drinking my weight in it next month when I'm in Sheffield (for as little as £2.10 a pint!!!), I'll call that a success.  ;D

There's a new Abbeydale beer out for the summer called Birdhouse Tea Beer, and it's made with green tea, jasmine, hibiscus, rose petals and summer fruits.  My hunt for this will begin the moment I arrive in The People's Republic of South Yorkshire in a few weeks time!
