Clearance Fee?
« on: August 28, 2010, 06:46:54 PM »
Hiya,

My family and I moved from Michigan to London in July and are going home for Christmas.  I am flying back to London on January 2nd with my kids and dog.  I have the Pet Scheme set, but I do not understand what Delta is telling me.  I called for an estimate on flight cost for the dog alone and was told he can travel as checked luggage for $529 but that Heathrow would charge me and additional $650 as a clearance fee.  I don't recall any clearance fee and don't remember any fees being that high.  I also cannot find any info on the Defra site.  Am I losing it?

Thanks!!

When I brought my dog over (7 years ago) there was a £300 fee that I had to pay the Animal Reception Centre at Heathrow.  They meet the dog at the airplane, bring them back to the centre and make sure that all the rules and regulations have been followed, the animal is healthy, etc.  $650 now seems about right, price-wise, given how other immigration fees have increased.
