Laundry question
« on: September 01, 2010, 09:31:23 PM »
I accidentally put an off-white silky type tank top in the wash with a new pair of black socks and now my beautiful off-white silky type tank top is a dingy, dirty-looking, ugly gray.

We were at Waitrose this afternoon and DH bought a box of Dylon Colour Run Remover but it didn't do a thing.

What can I use - if anything - to bleach this out? I didn't see a bleaching type product in the laundry aisle.

Thank you!

You won't find liquid bleach in the laundry aisle. It will be with the cleaning supplies and marked 'Thin Bleach'...there is something called 'Thick Bleach' as well but it's more of a gel and I don't think it works as well with clothing.

You could try hanging it out in the sun...like for a few days.  I know this works really well to remove stains (it takes breastfed baby poo stains out of bright white cloth nappies and also removed a blood stain from one of my shirts) but I'm not sure if it would work for this type of thing.  Worth a try.

Try hydrogen peroxide (ask behind the counter at Boots) or hanging in sunshine.

Ooh Ooh Ooh! Try Oxi Clean! Soak it and then wash it again! Good luck!

If it's nylon then definitely don't use chlorine bleach. OxiClean is perfectly safe, but I personally second the idea of hanging it in the sun. It won't get every stain, but it's safe regardless and it just might break up the dyes transferred from the socks. Good luck!

I just wanted to express my love for OxiClean.

(Well, it's limited love.  It does shorten the life of clothing, but damn, does it brighten dingy whites)
