One Year in Scotland...thank god for ASDA and Amazon!
« on: September 02, 2010, 02:53:07 PM »
Hello all!!  Super thrilled to have found this site.  I have been in Scotland a little over a year and will be celebrating my 1st wedding anniversary next week.  We spent about 8 months outside of Aberdeen, beautiful country but I had no car and no job!  Enjoyed village life but wanted to be closer to DH's family (WTF?) and in a better job market, so we moved back down to the main belt.  BUT we are shacked up with the MIL for the duration!!!!!!!!  The cigarette smoke is driving me insane, but she was already insulted when I got a Brita ("arch, I thought we had gud wader")...what would she do if I lugged a big air purifier upstairs!

I would love to hear other stories and make some friends!

Are you in Aberdeen now? I've been here seven years - just outside Aberdeen - and haven't met too many Americans - funny considering there are so many of us here. As they say 'Gi us a shout!'

Another who will be moving to Scotland (Western Isles) and will be living with MIL.  We may need to form a support group of some sort. :p

Hiya and welcome :) I'd don't envy you the living with your MiL-a-smoker bit at all, but hope your new location works out well. There's an in-law venting thread with sympathetic people should you need it.

Welcome to UKY!  I've also been here for a year.  I don't live with a mother-in-law but I can imagine it's tough!  There are some lovely villages in commuting distance down here though, for when you do make your escape.  ;)
