Wanting to start a new life in the UK...
« on: September 05, 2010, 06:23:55 PM »
We're 3 young, single, and very ambitious women looking to start a new life in some area of London. We need general info on the whole process from paperwork we'd need to complete, visas, work permits as well as job opportunities, rental properties and agents. How much should we expect to spend in the process? We need some good resources for finding jobs and a nice but inexpensive place to live that has close public transit. We're in planning stages so any info that you may have will help. Thanks!! ;D

The very first thing you'd need to sort out would be visas.  There's a whole section on that subject, so definitely have a look and see of you can get your questions answered.  Essentially, you either need to be very highly paid or very skilled to get a work-based visa for the UK; the government is in the process of placing caps on the number of people that it allows in the country, so it's definitely not an easy thing to do.  If you wouldn't mind providing some more details about your education and employment, then we could probably give you some more specific information and advice.

As a young, single, and ambitious woman myself, I almost applied for a skilled worker visa, because I had the qualifying points, but didn't because of the expense, and no guarantee of the visa or a job.  What I am doing instead is getting a MA degree in England, in hopes of extending into a post study work visa, so I'll have some ins to actually getting a job and staying over there.  And if that doesn't work out, I'm sure my MA will help me get a job if I come back home.  Unless you all can get corporate type jobs where the company will sponsor your work visa, I do think you have quite a mountain ahead just trying to move and find a job.

Best of luck though!
