Manchester Airport
« on: September 20, 2010, 04:13:48 AM »
We all know that Heathrow has an Animal Reception Center, but what about Manchester Airport?

Manchester is three hours drive closer to our new home, but we don't want to take any chances with the handling of our pets at the airport.

Does anyone have any experiences with flying a pet into Manchester?

thanks, Andy

Haven't flown yet, but I will be flying soon into Manchester with my cat under the Pet Scheme. I believe it is PBS that you will have to pick up your pet from.

Good luck to you and your furry friend!  :)

Thanks!

It seems that only Continental uses PBS. I don't like that extra step. Our other option for Manchester is Delta.

What is PBS? We will be using Continental as they are the best cost for us. Is it that big of a deal or extra step?

Looks like PBS is an agent that would handle the transfer of your pet from the plane to you.

From this site:
Quote
Customers with pets travelling on Continental Airlines into Manchester can collect their pet from Servisair Air Cargo, Building 300, World Freight Terminal, Manchester Airport, Manchester, M90 5SA.

It's not an "extra step" so much as a middleman between the airline and you. (Flying BA into Heathrow I had to have an agent for my pets - all they required was a form faxed to them listing my pets' details and the flight info.)

Hi. Just wondering if anyone has experience with Manchester yet? My dog and I are flying this Wed and I am sooo nervous! I have talked to the Pets on Jets people a few tomes though and must say they seem as nice and as organised as can be! Much more so than my vet in the US unfortunately!!!

Me too.  Manchester would be the closest for us.  Let me know how your experience goes.  BTW I've done this twice before but both times into Gatwick.  Both times were very smooth but I was nervous the whole time.  Good luck

So everything worked out great! The Pets on Jets crew at Manchester is wonderful and so helpful. I sent them all the paperwork ahead of time so once I was through immigration we went to their office...the dog was already out of her kennel and they were playing with her! The clearing took an hour at most then we were off home! And the fees were only £130 as opposed to the $730 Delta quoted me...of course that was just clearance and doesn't include the flight! All in all it turned out well even though I was a nervous wreck on the flight!

Wo did you fly with and what did they charge as opposed to delta if you don't mind me asking?  Last time we did this we flew NW into Gatwick and paid everything to the airline so the extra will be new this time.

I actually did use Delta from ATL to MAN. On the phone though they qoute the clearance/security fee as $730 on top of the flight (which was just over $1100 for my 65lb Boxer in an XL crate). I told them that the Pets on Jets staff told me that was way too high but the Delta rep said it's what they had on fike and had to qoute. We think that the higher fee s possibly specific to Heathrow maybe but not 100% sure.

All in all my fees were

Crate $120
Vet visit for tick/tapeworm $100
USDA office appt for stamp $114
Delta $1100
pets on Jest £130

I think that is "it"!  Kind of makes me feel ridiculous when I type it all out!!!

If you want any other info let me know.

Thanks -- That made more sense.  When we did our first move 5 years ago it was Chicago to Gatwick with NW and we paid close to $800 but no other fees on top of that upon arrival for a 25 pound spaniel in a med crate so the new prices aren't all that surprising.

I can't believe we are going through this all over again!!

If you have any more tips or anything that you think might be helpful that would be great-- I like to be over prepared:)
