Help figuring out washer/dryer?
« on: October 03, 2010, 10:13:37 AM »
So I just moved into my flat yesterday, and I'm so happy to have my own place. (I was staying with a friends' 80-ish year old grandparents for a week, which was free, but I like having a space that is MINE.) I need to do some laundry, but I don't have the foggiest clue how to use my Ariston AI1259MC washer dryer. I searched online but can't find a manual, and the landlady was nice enough to leave a manual for the boiler (helpful) and refrigerator (who needs a book for that?) but not the washer dryer.

If I posted a picture of the controls on this thing, does anyone think they could help me figure out how to use it? I think I understand the knobs, but there are five buttons on the top that I don't have the first idea of what they do.

Here are some pictures on Picasa. I also put some notes in as comments/captions. Any help is appreciated!

For the drawer, I believe the 1, 2, and flower compartment (3) are Pre-wash fluid, detergent, and fabric softener respectively at least in the 2 machines I've used in my time here.  I only ever use 2 and 3.  The other stuff is a bit beyond me! :)

For the five buttons, here's what I think, based partly on other machines I've owned/used, partly on logic and partly on pure guesswork:

Left to right

1: Supercare? Perhaps delicates?
2: Perhaps for a light load?
3: I can't read it, but if it says 30, then that's a cold wash
4: An extra rinse. This one I know.
5: Perhaps the on/off button?

For the two big dials, I'm pretty sure the one on the left is for setting your drying temp. The one on the right is to set how much you want the washer to spin. The more you spin, the less drying it'll need.

The dial on the left is for the dryer.

The dial on the far right is the washer. The letters & numbers on the dial correspond to the letters & numbers on the left of the machine which describes the settings.

The row of buttons the one on the far right is the power (on/off). The 90 one is for super hot wash, the one with the dots is super rinse option, the one with the black bottom is the small load (less water), and the one on the left is probably a delicates button.

The dial in the middle is probably so you can vary the spin cycle speed.

If you just want a simple wash use the A2 setting for the dial on the right and turn the dial on the left to whatever drying time you want to use, if you don't want to use the dryer turn the left dial so the '0' points to the black dot below the sun. (If you have a pretty heavy load you'll want to use the red portion (hot) for at least 60 minutes).

WebyJ is right. And the 600 -> 1200 dial is the RPMs for the washer. 1200 is fast, and your clothes will come out slightly damp. Great for jeans, but your shirts may need an ironing. I set ours to 11 if it's just jeans and underthings, and 7 if it's DF's shirts.

I do everything on a high spin. That way it dries on the line in next to no time at all!
