Southwest England Bristol shut flights for WINTER!
« on: October 16, 2010, 11:32:12 AM »
Trying to get family to Orlando for Thanksgiving with mom, surely thought its orlando should be cheap but holy cow not the case! Trying to avoid Heathrow as its hours away and involves staying overnight in hotel to make early morning flight and just found that Bristol is not running flights after nov 7th to the US! Any ideas?
Preferred travel on nov 18-30th

I don't know where you are, but if you're not too far from Cardiff, you might want to check that out. I know they have flights to Orlando.

I'm in Cardiff and tend to do flights depending on price.  I do usually end up going to London for US flights and just taking National Express down in the middle of the night, but for our shorter haul flights I usually use Bristol.

Cardiff does have US flights, you'll go through Amsterdam usually for them, but not always.  Sometimes I find Birmingham works for us, and that's a two hour drive instead of four to London.

Often flights out of Heathrow and Gatwick can be cheaper than going out of somewhere like Bristol or Cardiff. Even though I live in Bristol (or at least I did until this week), I usually fly to the US from Gatwick or Heathrow, because of the price differences.

Doing a quick search on Kayak, the cheapest flight from Gatwick on those dates is £438 per person (1 connection), but the cheapest flight from Cardiff is £541 per person (with 2 connections, one in Amsterdam)!

Manchester has flights starting at £463, and the cheapest from Birmingham is £476 (two connections, one in Frankfurt).

When I pick my days to fly I will get a quote to Ireland. They have some good fares when I checked this week. I think the ferry is 2 hours at best plus we would get to see a little of Ireland.

I did that the one time I flew to the US from Pembrokeshire. It was about 3 hours for me, but the flight was the best deal I could find.
