Just checking to see how many US guys are marrying any english and moving to the UK....I have some questions.

Have you moved yet?
How did you deal or how are you dealing with the move?
Was finding a job difficult?
Any advice for a US guy moving over?

I'll send this to someone who might be able to help.  :)

10/05/09--Leave for the UK!!!
06/15/12--Back in the US indefinitely...

Thanks.

I am not getting married anytime soon, but i am a male from the US, who moved to England with my gf.  you can message me if you have questions.

Basics one though, i have moved to London. i was excited about the move for i love london to begin with. Ive adjusted very easily having spent time here before, just feels like im living the same life just in a different location. Yeah you may miss friends and family at moments but there is always skype!

I am a student though and havent started looking for work yet, i imagine it could be tough though, suppose that goes for anywhere though ha.

Advice, if u havent been to England(guessing you have) but just make sure you take care of everything you need to before leaving...friends, family, making sure your transition goes smoothly. If you could somehow get a job interview for you arrive or land a job you would def be good! Immigration is not fun at all lol!!

If you have any questions let me know!!

Hi Syntax, Well, I have been there about 9 times to visit my spouse to be. I have a visa already. Now, I do have a degree in marine surveying and it seems that there is alot of that over there with not enough people that do it. I guess that is good for me. We have a house already and I bought a car the last time I was there. We will be in Surrey. Where do you stay?

My DH is an american man who married a scottish woman, does that count  ;)

My boy is American, we're getting married next year.
He came over on a student visa, in early October 2007, I advised him to spend a little time settling in and not rush to work, but he applied for one job in late November and got it, he started there in January and still works there now, but as it's in Brighton he works remotely.

To be honest the move didn't really affect him at all really, he seemed happy and settled relatively quickly, he made friends at uni pretty quickly which helps I think, I also had a male flat mate who liked the same kind of music and they've become really close.
He struggled with food a bit, he'd been used to all sorts of junk, but I've introduced him to vegetables, sushi, curry, ethiopian and now he likes lebanese even more than I do! I can make some Texas classics though and we get BBQ sauce and Butterfingers (bleugh!) sent over.
He was quite positive and tried everything, even when he didn't think he was going to like it, so that helped a lot, he didn't like a lot of things, but liked loads so it all evened out. I did little things for him like went when he set up a bank account, but I just started a new job so pretty much left him to do everything alone, he made some mistakes like not realising he had to flag down the bus but meh, was alright. Minor embarrassments but he survived.

Now he likes it more than I do, we were all set to move to the US, but we've both started dragging our feet and the other day admitted neither of us really wanted to move, we don't want to drive everywhere, we don't want to pay for medical insurance, we don't want to bring up kids there, we don't want to believe in God or be converted, we don't want to give up all London has to offer, we don't want to keep up with the Jones's and a myriad of other things so the likelihood is we'll stay.

I see. That sounds promising. I have alot to do and keep me busy so I dont think that will be an issue. I am from the southeastern North Carolina so I will have my hands full trying to find a good church...because I am a Christian. I do like not paying for health insurance thought!,,,LOL!

Moving to a large public transit city like New York (the outer boroughs at least) negates a lot of those concerns, if you did decide to move to the US someday.  You still have to pay for health insurance and there are Jones to keep up with if you let it get to you but you certainly won't have to drive or believe in God and you give up London to get New York (or Chicago  or SF or Boston, etc), which seems like a decent trade.

Yup, we're looking at that now, there's loads of places I'd love to live in, in the states but we're dragging our feet, can't hugely put our finger on it to be fair. I'm limited by my industry as well, there's no games culture in NYC at all which would be my first choice, we're thinking Seattle maybe.
Possibly it's just that our lifestyle and the English sensibilities just fit for the moment, that may not always be the case of course. I certainly would never say never :)

I very proudly married my Mancunian bint in June this year.  We met playing tribal wars online 2 years ago.  Once we started skyping and talking on the phone, I watched Shameless episodes non-stop on youtube just so that I could understand her accent :D

I've lived a fairly eclectic life, from serving in multiple places in the world while in the USAF to teaching ballroom dancing to selling Kirby vacuum cleaners to being a registered nurse, and yet my British love constantly stimulates my mind....  She introduced me to Banksy and Heather Jansch and Damein Hirst and Tim Minchin and others.  I love Manchester and can't wait to explore the castle coast and Cornwall and her other favourite places in England with her.  She keeps my mind alive and she's my soulmate.  I've got my biometrics appointment this Friday, so hopefully the Entry Control Officer see's it the same way and grants me my visa....

Well from what I understand.....its not a matter of if you will be approved for entry it is when. It took mine close to 4 weeks. That was mainly my fault though because I had my biometrics done and did not send off my packet until I came back from England. I thought that I was gonna lose my fee. But I didn't. I am glad to know that I am not the only bloke leaving the US for an English woman. I have been to Cornwall...it is a wonderful place. Also she has some friends that reside in Devon and we always go down to Sidmouth and spend a few days. I have never been to Manchester, although I have been fairly close to it. What part of the US are you from?

Bint is not a good word in most places in the UK.

English slang for a whore or b*tch. Similar to a tart.
