hello from texas
« on: October 29, 2010, 08:29:36 PM »
Hi, my name is Rachael. I'm from Texas. I've wanted to live in England my whole life, total Anglophile since about the age of 7.
I'm 21, and several years ago I met this guy online who lives in London. Over the years we become close friends and recently that has become something more.
I've suggested the idea of trying to move to London to be with him, at least for a short while without a visa and then go home. He suggested the idea of marriage, but not exactly sure how it will all work out.
I have limited resources, I am getting a small inheritance from my mom who passed a couple years back and that might afford me to make a start in the UK with him. Even though I'm not terribly close to any of my family, the idea of moving there sort of scares me, even though it would probably be my biggest dream to do so.
Am I the only one who has ever felt this way? Probably not, but just wanted to see.

Welcome to UKY ;-)
You can read lots of stories on here but you can't come to England as the say to "shack up".  You can come and visit as long as you can prove you will return to the US and are not trying to settle here.  Marriage is a big deal and don't go into lightly. If you are unsure keep dating and visit each other and know for SURE first.  Have you met face to face? Seen where he lives? has he been to Texas?
If the marriage doesnt work you would have to go back to the US if it happens within two years on a spouse visa.  That is a whole other mess of money.
If it is a dream to live in England - go to school and come over that way to check it out don't go the marriage route to live in England if that is not want you want.

Where in Texas? there are a few Texans on this forum as I just moved from Austin as well last year ;-)
