Rise to University Fees?
« on: November 03, 2010, 08:45:00 AM »
As most of you heard Lord Browne and his plan to increase Uni fees. Today this is being talked about, but my question is how does this impact us international students??!! I have yet to hear anything about the subject..if their fees rise will ours increase even higher for the following year?!

yes but i am sure they do slightly each year, but if your talking about UK/EU fees spiking to £9000 from 3000-ish... well id hate to think what international fees could be if were already spending 9k + annually.

In the news ive only heard about UK/EU fees going up, but that has to effect us as well? I just havent heard them even mention the international students and what this would mean to us....

Feel free to debate or shed insight into this topic!

Here the rumour is that they're officially "not sure" that the international student fees will change that much (with the implication that they won't go up the same way home fees are looking like they will). However, University of Manchester, at least, is very much adopting a look and see attitude with all of this, so that may change when the official budget slicing begins.

No idea. There's so much hearsay going on I don't know what's true and false. Though, I do doubt that they will triple international fees. Just to say, there isn't a cap present at the moment for international fees so universities are already charging what they wish. Apparently they're doubling tuition costs for home students 'in order to reflect the true cost of each student.' Which is apparently around 7K per year. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...
09/29/09--Visa Approved!
10/05/09--Leave for the UK!!!
06/15/12--Back in the US indefinitely...
