I got my plane ticket on Saturday!!! I'm leaving right after Christmas and staying through June. I can't wait to go...I miss being in England so much!

So if my boyfriend (or whatever he is at the moment) and I decide to get married while I'm there w/BUNAC, we can't?? I know you can get a finace visa, but you can't work there while you have it and that WOULD NOT work for me.

If you got married in the UK while here on the BUNAC program, you would need to leave the UK and apply for a spousal visa in the States.  You can adjust status from within the UK if you're on a student visa for 6 months or longer, but the BUNAC visa isn't a student visa, technically.

If you guys did decide "spur of the moment" to get married in the UK, you would NOT need a fiancee' visa to get married, but you would have to stop working once you were married as your BUNAC visa would be invalidated by the marriage and you'd need the spousal visa in order to return to work.

I sent off my BUNAC application on Friday....2-3 day priority...and I remember BUNAC saying that when they get applications they are pretty good with send out the blue card that day...I am a little worried with the time thing being as I am leaving on the 26th....I think I will be calling them tomorrow to see if the application was received.*sighs*

I am soooo nervous!!

I got my stuff back from them about three days after I sent it in, but you probably should call since it so close to when your leaving! I leave in a week-I'm so excited/nervous! I know where I'm living...but I still need a job.

Good luck with the job hunt.  While there on BUNAC i worked in reception at the GMC, at a great pub in the East End called the Owl and the Pussycat, and for a dodgy personal injury hotline.  all three were great jobs.  I used a temp agency and spent quite a lot of time at BUNAC's HQ calling about positions.  Just hang in there!
had a bit of a wobble.

I know where I'm living (with some friends near Manchester) so at least I have that sorted out! I'm getting nervous!

Everythings going good, I guess. I'm really happy to be in England, but I spent four hours today walking around
Manchester in the snow looking for a job. And I didn't really find anything! No one anywhere is hiring right now!

Any luck yet? I'm in the SE and haven't gotten anything yet either (though I'm just registered with a couple agencies). What kind of work are you looking for?

I've been here for a month and I still haven't found a job. I'm working as a sort-of subsitute caffeteria lady in the schools in this area 2-3 hrs/day, 3-4 days/wk, and it sucks. I've been on five job interviews and I havent gotten anything.  It's getting really frustrating.  Have you found a job yet?

When I did BUNAC last year about this time it took me about a month to find a job. I don't think they are entirely honest about their statistics (if I remember correctly the handbook said a ridiculously high percentage of BUNAC participants find jobs within a week. Every BUNACer I knew throughout the program took about a month to find a job). I ended up taking a job that was an hour and a half commute from where I was living. But I really enjoyed the job. It was a great experience and it helped me get my current job. So all in all it was definitely a good experience.

Hang in there, you'll find something soon.  Try finding some practice interview questions online. I was surprised to learn that there are "wrong" answers to some questions. Silly me, I was answering questions honestly. No wonder I couldn't find a job :P You're getting interviews, Angie, which is really the hardest part.

What type of questions did you answer "wrong"? I haven't had any problems getting interviews, but nothing has lead to a job. I'm so sick of filling out job applications and I'm getting frustrated.

questions like "What is your biggest fault?" ... the right answer is "I don't have any faults" or something like "i work too hard"... something that's not actually a fault. That's probably obvious to everyone but me though :P

Have you tried agencies? I'm sure you've tried everything, but that's the only suggestion i could think of :(  Try not to let yourself get frustrated (easier said than done). Just keep thinking of how wonderful it is to be in England :)  I know how you feel, and I wish there were something I could do to help you.
