Suit jacket with jeans
« on: November 16, 2010, 11:37:52 AM »
Didn't quite know where to ask this.....

Am I the only one who thinks that jeans and a suit jacket are horrendous? I read somewhere that it is a classic look....and I know damn well it isn't. Classic means that it has been around a while...

Me too, with the right jacket (and nice jeans!) it can look quite sharp.

Ehh, I think it all depends on the combination - are they appropriate jeans or like 80s acid wash- and the shirt underneath - sometimes its completely hideous and other times its OK and sometimes its really sexy

I love a fitted blazer with jeans.

I  mean, if it's an actually suit jacket that is meant to be worn with pants, it might look a little silly, but a structured blazer with jeans is pretty classic.

its a nice jacket with a fashion pair of jeans (no acid wash or slashes) with a smart pair of shoes and a nice belt - woozers!
Love it

As a general rule, I like the look.  Especially a tweed jacket, a nice shirt with a collar, jeans and some nice leather shoes/boots.

But it also really depends on the situation.  It looks like Daniel Craig is at a movie premiere, where I could argue that the jeans are a bit too casual for that situation, even though he does look yummy.

And in the Jeremy Clarkson example, well, I don't think there is anything wrong with a corduroy jacket with jeans when you are out running errands or having a casual meal with someone.  (His shoes definitely need to be different, though!)

I think it's way too easy to look like a older teacher that thinks he's too cool for school and not smart casual stylish. It's mostly to do with the style and the cut of the jacket. I absolutely love it geeked up a bit (but then I do love a hipster geek, I have way too much love for Dr.Reid from Criminal minds).

It also screams 80s/early 90s to me for some reason. I wont say that no one can ever carry it off, as Dan Craig definitely looks yum, but I think that most people fall in the Jeremy Clarkson category where it just highlights all his bad bits and none of his good bits (height, shoulders etc)

I think that chinos, cords, cardigans and sweaters can be a much more forgiving smart/casual look, and you get a good mix of textures which is more flattering. Cords, a great shirt and a v-neck jumper type combo.

LOOOOOOOOOVE the Gubler.

But I dig the look on both genders.  It's all in the cut of the jacket and the jean, though, of course.

I recall a LOST episode where Charlie totally made me drool in that sort of look.  Think he had a scarf on as well as I recall.

Normally I didn't drool over Charlie I should make it clear.  I adored his character (the same way as I adored Hurley or Hiro from Heroes) and totally shipped Charlie & Claire though.

You may laugh at Clarkson (and, trust me, he's not one of my favourites by a long shot), but that's probably the best he's ever going to look. It's all relative.

Agreed! You should have seen him before his Trinny and Susannah makeover!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
