Advice please
« on: November 17, 2010, 05:08:39 PM »
So I know I'm not the only one feeling this way so any insight on coping would help...I am extremely depressed because I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. My hubby (UK) and I (US) got married Oct. 7th and he left on Oct. 18th. We are awaiting money from his mother for the settlement visa and it's slow in coming. That's all we're waiting for and I just get frustrated everyday that he says it's not there. I'm not blaming his mother because I really appreciate her helping us out on this. We've been apart for exactly one month now and we do talk everyday with video chat but I feel so lonely and depressed. Luckily I'm with family and I do have a full time job but finances are extremely tight so I am sitting at home most of the time and thinking way too much about everything. I'm just not sure what to do. Everyone says to stop stressing about everything but I simply can't and noone seems to know how I'm feeling and my hubby has his own way of dealing with it (i.e. doesn't talk about it). So I'm at my wits end and I'm not sure how to deal with this. Any advice?

Hey Katie,

I'm very sorry that you're depressed and many of us on here know how the loneliness goes.

Is there a way you can put the fee on a credit card? It sucks but it's an option and a quicker one. If not, I hope your MIL sends the money soon!

I'm sorry to hear you're struggling.  Do you have any hobbies that you enjoy - might help to keep you busier while you wait things out?  What about your friends or support network there - anyone to talk/vent to?  Hopefully it won't be much longer.  Be kind to yourself.

It can be so hard when you are waiting even for a date that you will be together with your significant other.  As Mrs. R says, be kind to yourself and try to fill your time with something you enjoy.  Don't just let yourself sit in the house thinking about it though.  Try to enjoy the time you have left with your family because it can be hard not seeing them when you are here.  Good luck passing the time!

Thank you guys for letting me vent a lil and understanding what I'm going through...
Gibby - No I don't have a credit card, I've been in and out of the country a lot this past year and have only had jobs while I was here in the States and my credit is horrible because of the divorce I went through before getting remarried. So a credit card is not an option at this point.

Mrs. R. - Thank you so much and yeah I do crosswords and cross stitching but I just can't seem to stay focused on a particular task for very long. I am trying to keep strong through this whole situation. I talk to my mom and brother all the time about it but I don't feel like they fully understand what I'm going through. I know they are probably tired of hearing me complaining by now. :D

Persephone- Thank you so much for the advice! I have been spending a lot of time with my family and luckily I'll get to spend Thanksgiving here with them this year as I don't plan on spending it with them next year because I'll hopefully be in the UK then but it's even harder with Christmas coming up and not being able to spend it with my hubby again this year. I'll try to keep strong and take one day at a time.

Good luck Katie... just remember this too shall pass and a year from now you won't even remember (most likely)...it's just being 'on hold' that I can understand, my life in the UK has been on hold ever since I got here...except now we're going the opposite way, back to the US where everything is...well everything except me, my husband and our daughter. Good luck to you & hang in there.

Katie,
Im in the same boat as you and here are a few things that help me...

1. Spend all the time you can with your family , youll be moving soon afterall
2. Work all that you can, great for keeping your mind busy and bank accnt full
3. Send little inexpencive gifts or cards to each other. nice to be waiting for somthing other than your approved visa .
4. Talk on the phone once a week if you can, its amazing how my husbands voice calms my nerves.
5. Text and chat online as much as possible.
6. Workout , this has helped me alot, running or walking for 20 mins releases "feel good hormones" and as a great side effect my pants fit better :)

Hopefully Santa Leaves an Approved Visa in your Stocking this year ;D

1. I have been..I live with my mom right now so I get to see her everyday and if I'm not at home or work I'm over my brother's.
2. I work ALLL the time...lol I feel like I live there!!!
3. He's not the romantic type so this wouldn't work for me but it's a nice thought if he would just do it!!
4. We talk everyday on the phone...I usually call him on my breaks at work..I got an international calling card so it's cheaper :D
5. We use Yahoo Messenger video chat so it's easier that we can see each other while we talk...without it I would go nuts I think!!
6. The gyms are way expensive and I think it's too cold to walk outside but it is a good suggestion that I would have to  look into...

I hope you get your Christmas miracle as well :D I'll keep you all updated about what's going on!!
