Is the UHT Jamaican eggnog similar to the eggnog we have in the US?  I wouldn't mind having some around for Christmas..

Advocaat is worth a try, but I think if the OP wants something to add tequila to, that probably isn't it.  :D  Also, I (personally) don't think it bears much resemblance at all to US eggnog.  Probably because ours seems to have gotten thicker and sweeter than the original version.

Eggnog is sooo easy to make..

I use Paula Deen's recipe and it tasted just what I remembered as a kid Eggnog should taste like....

I used Alton Brown's recipe last year (having never made it before) and while I wouldn't want to whip it by hand, an electric beater makes it so easy.

That said, I just instructed my BF to add a bottle of Advocaat to the Tesco's order  ;)

Mulled wine seems to be the preferred warm Christmas drink here.

If you don't like the Advocaat as eggnog - you can always make Snowballs out of it!  We always have that as one of our festive drinks before our Christmas dinner at my in-laws.  My BIL makes them - only he uses Smirnoff Ice in place of some (or all?) of the lemonade/lime cordial bit.

It's a cold drink with lots of ice though!  Mulled wine gives me a headache & makes me want to boak.

I like my nog ice cold!

Mulled wine and eggnog are both lovely, and there's plenty of time for both at Christmas!  :)

Is that British lemonade or American lemonade?

Does anyone do hot buttered rum here? I was in a bar in Edinburgh last winter and overheard an American unsuccessfully try to order some. My experiences ordering anything more complicated than a G&T in Scotland have been mixed at best, though.
