Eggnog?!
« on: November 19, 2010, 04:37:28 PM »
So, my first English Christmas . . .  My family will be coming over and I will be with my boyfriend and his family as well, so I don't think I will be too homesick, and I am feeling pretty fortunate.  I do want some eggnog, however!!  Does it exist in England??  and if it does, where should I look for it in London?  I like it straight, but my dad also makes a drink with tequila and eggnog, which sounds terrible but is actually delish!   Thanks all!

What about trying advocaat, if you want similar, yet alcoholic?

I've made my own before. It's really simple.

I've seen it in the international foods aisle at ASDA...in a box carton unrefridgerated.

Yup.  Bought a juicebox of it the other day.  It was something like 80p!   :o  You can also try looking in Tesco's.  It's usually listed as Jamaican Egg Nog.

If it doesn't need to be chilled, what's in it?

It's got UHT milk in it.  It needs refrigerating once opened, but the juiceboxes are only 240ml.

I think I remember reading about someone finding it at LIDL a few years back too--I haven't looked since then since I don't really drink it myself.

There was a soy eggnog back in the States that I loved though--wish I could get my hands on that one again.  I don't do tons of soy products, but that nog was delish!

I've had the "juice box" of it before (have one in to drink while I do the tree next weekend).  Got this one at Tesco

It's passable.  I'd probably chill it, shake it then pour in a glass with a dash of nutmeg for best result

Advocaat is eggnog without milk but with booze, if you get some advocaat you can water it down with milk (about half and half) grate some nutmeg on top, and bobs your uncle, you're drunk and milky in about half an hour.

(I may or may not have done this before :D )

Oh dear. Advocaat is bringing back some very, very unfortunate memories for me...  >:D
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
