I always hated asparagus because when my mother boiled it forever it turned into a slimey grey mess.  There's a lot to be said for lightly steaming vegs.  Roasting them is even better.

When I steam veg, I do 'his and hers'. We have a two tier steamer. When we were in the UK we had a three tier one. I put his on, and then put mine on about 30 minutes later. I want my veg still slightly firm, his is just short of baby food. Ick.

Grandma always boiled or steamed the heck out of veggies. and mom never liked it, so she always did them where they were still slightly firm. That is what I grew up on, and can't cope with mushy.

I think back in the old days people were more concerned with food-born illness, so they cooked stuff to death. My grandmother was forever "bringing things back to boil" to kill off any nasties. She didn't have a refrigerator until the 50's....
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

My godfather always tells us that he hated broccoli until he was in his 20s when he discovered that it could have texture and flavor; his mother always boiled it to mush.

I have always called them 'little green balls of evil'. I haven't bought any to try roasting them yet, but will in the next week or two.

I'd have agreed with you 3 years ago! haha. I also refused to eat asparagus because I thought it looked gross. I have since changed my mind... but only if it's cooked well and not completely soggy.

Oh, I completely agree about over cooked vegetables, they are absolutely gross. I always prefer mine al dente. Mush is just....ew. If you can squish it with a fork, that's WAY too far. Roasting is definitely my favourite way to cook most veg. Mmmm, roasted cauliflower would be super tasty right now.

Mushy peas are great.

Add chips and pickled onions and that's 3/5 of your recommended daily intake of vegetables.

Eew, our baking trays do that every so often and we have to chuck them away. Bummer about the cake! was it salvageable?

I just realized we have five (5) wash basins in this house, that all need cleaning weekly. Not to mention two toilets, the kitchen sink, a bath tub (that we rarely use but still gets manky) and a shower.
And DH still doesn't get it that we need to downsize.  ::)

I would LOVE to have his and hers bathrooms, until I remember it means another of each to clean. The joy of not having to check to see if the seat is down in the middle of the night might be enough to override the inconvenience of more cleaning.

I would be happy just not to have to walk down a hallway, down 5 steps, across a landing and up 2 steps to get to the loo.  Fortunately I rarely have to get up at night  :)
