I f***in' hate Joe Lieberman. The Grauniad needs to check its sources though- Lieberman, despite endorsing McCain and generally being a complete tosser, has never officially been a Republican.
Arrived as student 9/2003; Renewed student visa 9/2006; Applied for HSMP approval 1/2008; HSMP approved 3/2008; Tier 1 General FLR received 4/2008; FLR(M) Unmarried partner approved (in-person) 27/8/2009; ILR granted at in-person PEO appointment 1/8/2011; Applied for citizenship at Edinburgh NCS 31/10/2011; Citizenship approval received 4/2/2012

It's not all that accurate in terms of Amazon either.  Wikileaks was subject to some major attacks since the release, and it's entirely possible that part/some of the reason they were taken off the servers was because it was in danger of crashing the entire system (for example, right now reddit (another website) is also down, and they use Amazon servers as well.) It wouldn't surprise me if there was some pressure, but I imagine Amazon is also protecting other customers.
Quite poorly researched all around.
Though Lieberman is fairly useless.

I think that part was right- the attacks came on their old server, which is why they moved to Amazon. CNN is reporting it as having been deliberately taken down by Amazon as well: http://us.cnn.com/2010/US/12/01/wikileaks.amazon/index.html?hpt=T2
It is now back up though.

True but I can understand their confusion - it would be like the Des Moines Register being a bit confused about Vince Cable's affiliation.

I think they were probably still under attack when they moved to Amazon though. I just meant that Amazon might have decided that being subject to those sorts of attacks and getting pressured just wasn't worth it. In the normal course of things, DDOS attacks can get you booted from most servers.

No, I'd say it would be more like the Wall Street Journal being confused about Vince Cable's affiliation- a major national newspaper shouldn't make that mistake, where a podunk regional paper could be forgiven the confusion. Then again, the Grauniad has a long-standing reputation for rubbish editing (hence the nickname), so it's not really a surprise.

Just a minute Super, I'll have you know that the Des Moines Register has won 16 Pulitzer Prizes. I think one was for giving the world Cathy...

Amazon's been acting flaky for the last few days, and I'm sure some of their customers have complained, whether they knew anything about Wikileaks or not.

As for Lieberman, he's been running the John McCain "F**k Integrity: I Do Whatever I Think Will Get Me The Most Votes" playbook for the last few years.  A few more years of him and McCain and the Tea Party and Party of No and I'm going to give up on politicians altogether.

So I read this morning that the domain name host has dropped wikileaks due to attacks or something another.

Super, anyone else care to clarify as I don't know exactly what this means....the articles aren't exactly illuminating...

They temporarily took it down because of DOS attacks: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_attack
It's a common tactic used by hackers, and in this case it's probably hackers working for the US government.

Um, according to Amazon, while there were DDOS attacks they were "successfully defended against".  They dropped Wikileaks because they violated the terms of service:

It’s clear that WikiLeaks doesn’t own or otherwise control all the rights to this classified content. Further, it is not credible that the extraordinary volume of 250,000 classified documents that WikiLeaks is publishing could have been carefully redacted in such a way as to ensure that they weren’t putting innocent people in jeopardy.

This isn't Amazon, this is the domain name server: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-11907641
