Overseas Parcels Question
« on: December 02, 2010, 07:11:09 PM »
I want to put my US Christmas gifts in the mail on Saturday.  Which option is cheapest, sending two parcels that each weigh 1kg or one parcel that weighs 2kg?

When I sent large boxes to the UK the post office told me it was cheaper to send one BIG box than to send 2 or 3 small boxes.  But, for some reason, I'm thinking it's the opposite with Royal Mail, that it's cheaper to send a number of small parcels than one large one.

Does anyone on UKY know?  Thanks!!   :)

Hi,

Just used the Royal Mail price finder to determine that a 1kg package sent to the US as an Airmail Small Packet would be £12.37, while a 2kg package sent the same way would be £23.37 (or £11.69/kg).  So it's ever so slightly cheaper to use the 2kg box.

I'm not sure if this applies for all of the various ways you can choose to send something, or if Airmail Small Packet is unique.  You can check them all here:

Hope that helps!

ciao,
Carl

Hiya

I often export products from the UK to the US (and vice versa!) and I'd suggest taking a look at the discount courier companies as well. The UK pricing for sending parcels and packages has more competition, so prices are relatively cheap for sending stuff.

here's the links

There's probably a few others, but those are the two main ones I use. Royal Mail I tend to check for smaller items which it sounds like you have in this case, but as always, no harm in shopping around!

With the couriers I also like the fact I get a tracking number, a pickup from my house, and in some cases when I've gone for the economy 5 day service, customers have informed me it's arrived on the 3rd day!

Hope this helps!

Cheers, DtM! West London & Slough UK!
