Hello out there!
« on: December 08, 2010, 05:53:14 AM »
Hello all!  I came across this site awhile back and thought now was a great time for an intro!  I currently live in Atlanta, Georgia and am dreaming of moving to the UK!  I have wanted to relocate for many years now and have come to realize that if I don't do it now, then I probably never will.

I have contacted a few employment agencies over there and am now just trying to get everything in order.  I work as a Diagnostic Radiographer (x-ray technologist) and have just recently specialized in Mammography.  To help me prepare for the big move I am here in the US trying to get experience in my new field so that I can jump into a job once I move!

I am hoping to move within the next couple of years...I have an elderly grandfather that is close to the end of his life (he's almost 93 years old) and I want to wait until he passes before I make the transition.  He has had such a wonderful life and has said that he is ready to go, so I want to make sure that I am here for his final days.

I am always open to advice and help so if anyone out there knows anything about a few agencies that are geared towards the medical field let me know!  Also if you have any advice of any other kind, anything helps!  I have a dog that I plan on bringing with me...so any advice geared towards that as well would be extremely helpful!

I am so excited about the prospects of moving to the UK!!!  I am looking at Scotland but honestly am open to wherever life takes me!  My ancestry hails from Wales...Mayflower time period!...so I can honestly say that I believe that I will be happy in any location.

I look forward to hearing from some of you on here!  Happy Holidays to all and thanx in advance for any help/advice you can offer!

Hello and Welcome,

I am also from ATLANTA ga.  I lived outside the city in Powder Springs (Paulding Cnty).  I moved to the UK this year/last Feb, so it is almost a year now.  Wow, time does fly.

I married a british guy from Plymouth England (he is orginiall from West Midlands), and he moved to the USA, where we lived for 5 years after getting married.  Then we decided for many different reasons, it was time to move to/back to Plymouth England.

I love it here.  It is so different from living in Atlanta.  Plymouth is way down south here in England (kinda like Atlanta is the south usa).  The city is nice size, about 250,000 folks in a tiny area.  Living in Plymouth is different from living in say London, which while different is more like living in usa (I think).

I have a friend who lives in Cartersville (do you know the area?), north of Atlanta, who is moving over to Scotland end of Feb 2011.  We also know another couple who loved from Paulding / Dallas, Ga area who moved to Wales this past May 2010.  We were friends back in Paulding Cnty also.

I have read on this board of another guy from Powder Springs who is moving over to England also, so there are a number of us from Atlanta area who have made the adventure over.

Like I said before, I do love it here.  Wish you all the best in your adventure to make the big move over.  Keep the board posted.

You can get started on the long process for your dog right now if you want and string it out as long as necessary.  Take a look at the Pets board for details on this process.

Nemie ATL,

Thanx for the warm wishes!  I grew up in Cartersville...graduated from Cartersville High in '98!   :)  What is your friend's name...I might know them!  My father taught for the city schools when he was alive and my mother teaches for the county schools.

I can say that I am very excited about the prospects.  I have never visited the UK before, but have always felt my heart pull towards it.  I just feel like it is something that is meant to be!  Plus, it is such a large world out there...who wants to be stuck in one place their whole entire life?!...not me!  I want to experience life to the fullest and I think moving to the UK would give me that ability.

As things progress I will keep you posted!  Again, thanx for the well wishes!  I am glad to know that a few people from the ATL are out in the UK too and that you love it out there!
