Welcome to UKY Katie!  Start the Pets Scheme now as mirrajay suggested to another poster as you can drag that out as well but at least get it started.  You have an awesome road ahead of you!

Ohhh and if you are moving to the UK as I assume eat up on the mexican now!  ;D

Hi Katie,

Welcome to the site.  Your right in that this is a very informative site.  It helped me so much in the past with my visa application and all sorts of things.

Congrats on your wedding and moving over here.  Where will you be residing in the UK?

I moved over in Feb this year w/ my british husband of almost 6 yrs now.   We also have 2 dogs that we brought with us, our babies.

We love love love mexican food.  I lived in LA for several yrs after I graduated college, so I know good mexican food, and you will not find it over here, so as someone else said in eariler post, eat it till you can't stand it because you will not get it here.

Yup. I'm a burrito a day girl when I visit San Diego.  Not so much Mexican food here, but you can try replacing it with Indian food. Yum.

Are you getting married in the UK or the US?

Thank you! And actually I live with my family so they're the family animals. I'll be sad to say goodbye to them...and all my Mexican food lol I'll definitely miss the easy access to pinto beans!

Thank you for the welcome :) I'll be living in East Anglia but my fiancee and I have plans to maybe move down to Bournemouth or Somerset eventually.

Hearing your happy endings and many others on the site give me hope that it all works out  :D And saying goodbye to Mexican food is going to be hard! I may have to get my family to send me packages of nothing but pinto beans when I move lol

Thanks again  :)

Yum Indian food definitely sounds good. My fiancee loves Mexican food as much as I so I think every time we come back to visit the states we'll bring a whole case of pinto beans back lol

I'm getting married over there. Can't wait! And thank you for the welcome  :D

Welcome Welcome!  Nice to see another Cali girl! I'm beginning to think I'm the only person on here that's not a Mexican Food fanatic.  Honestly it's the thing I miss the least about the US. I even tried introducing it to my DH- but he was less than thrilled, and actually balked at the refried beans! Oh well- Hope all works out for ya!
We stole countries with the cunning use of flags. Just sail around the world and stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain!" They're going "You can't claim us, we live here! Five hundred million of us!" "Do you have a flag …? "What? We don't need a flag, this is our home, you bastards" "No flag, No Country, You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!...and I'm backing it up with this gun, that was lent to me from the National Rifle Association."

Hi Katie!  And welcome!

And just so you know - pinto beans aren't that hard to come by here.  I buy them tinned all the time at Morrisons (plain pinto beans in a can), and you can usually find dried pinto beans in a health food shop (if not at the grocery store).  :)

Hi all!  I'm new to the forum and also from southern California!  My English husband and I (and our two girls) are moving to northern England this May.  So nice to see fellow Cali ladies on here!   :D

I guess this is the perfect spot to introduce myself as well. :-)  I am also a SoCal woman moving to the UK!  From "the OC" to Manchester.
I'm moving in a slightly different situation than it seems most of you, in that I'm not moving to get married or to be with anyone, but am accepting a new job with my current company in the UK.  While I'm really excited about it, it's really scary knowing that I'm going over all on my own without a family support system.
Like Katie expressed, reading this forum has been invaluable both to my piece of mind as well as in educating me.  Thanks so much to all you UKY posters for providing info on things that hadn't even occurred to me.  (like getting my dog's Pet Passport process moving ASAP!)
Keep up all the great posts and hopefully at some point in the future, I'll be able to contribute some words of wisdom as well.
(and I'll eat some carnitas today for all of you craving Mexican food. LOL)

There's plenty of ingredients available here for real Mexican food. Well....except pinto beans, I think, but, then again, I don't eat them so I never look for them. But, hey there and welcome! I'm a SoCali, too. Originally from San Diego.
