Ack. No fair, people!  It was all good until you brought diners into the conversation. Now all I can think of is some plump blueberry pancakes and hash browns!!  ;D

Homemade peach ice cream from Jigger's Diner in East Greenwich, RI! Now that's my kind of diner grub!

Mmm. We have a place called the Honey Bee Diner within walking distance of our house. But one of my favorite 24-hour joints is

The key to this place is the decor:

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I'm spoiled for sushi choices as well. I'm in Acton where there's a very vibrant Japanese community. I feel badly for anyone who can't access good sushi! I had no idea it was hard to come by outside of London.

For those of you in London, I get my sushi and Japanese food ingredients from the Japan Centre, close to Piccadilly Circus. You can buy bags of edamame, sake, fresh sashimi without breaking the bank. Last time I bought some octopus for about 2 quid. Yum! :)

heh, I'm in Ealing and can attest that there is a huge Japanese community here and some of the best sushi restaurants in the UK, including Kiraku and Atari Ya in North Acton which supplies restaurants like Nobu with fish.

I live right around the corner from Atari-Ya, cheesebiscuit! And now there's a Japanese deli across the street from them called Yo-Yos in case you weren't aware. It does fantastic sushi and has a good beer selection (I love Asahi Dark). And yes, the Japanese put mayo on loads of stuff. I love Kewpie mayo. First fell in love with it when I had okonomiyaki at Abenos in London. Yum!

As for diners, don't get me started. How I love breakfast at unfashionable hours!

Has anyone else seen Pennsylvania Diners?  It ran on PBS in PA, and perhaps else where, I loved and keep hinting for Christmas.

Any place that uses mayo on sushi is no friend of mine.

Japanese people definitely use mayo in sushi, especially alot of the rolls that originated in the US (ie. California rolls). They even have special bottles for dispensing it. ;)

The best thing about diners (and maybe chain restaurants too) is a bottomless cup of coffee.  Boy do I miss that!   :(
