Apparently, the owner of the Hilltop Diner near Salisbury is a fan of American diners and has real American style pancakes on the menu.  Also something called "Disco Fries" that I am not familiar with but some of my American friends are.

I am going this Saturday morning (the 18th Dec) at 11am for some panckaes with a couple of other Americans.

Want to join us?  Let me know!

Ohhh, I live  close to Hilltop-and drive past it every Saturday to take the 9 year old horse riding.   She doesn't have riding on the 18th, you will have to let me know how it goes.

There aren't many diners where I come from, but there are chili parlors!

There are places like yo sushi...but they're not posh or very good...okay for a quick lunch but not really proper sushi and not really worth your money imo.

Oh...I've never eaten at one but I thought they were supposed to be good.  And I had heard they could be expensive.

I miss good sushi now.   :(

I suppose it is an acquired taste...I grew up on the stuff and love it.  What can possibly be wrong with a plateful of spaghetti, with Cincy chili and a ton of cheese on top?
And with numerous packets of oyster crackers.

It's definitely an acquired taste. I grew up in Cleveland and therefore exposed to lots of Ohio 'stuff" but I never got on board with Cincy style chili. It wasn't the style it was served in but rather the chili itself that I've never enjoyed. I like to serve Texas-style chili over spaghetti with lots of cheese, in fact. (And I know all the Texans are now fainting in horror over that revelation... ;D)

I ahve always tried to resist the urge to tart up chilli too much, because like cheese grits, it's hard to go back to plain chilli after youv'e tasted it with a bunch of cheese and sour cream stirred in. It's sinful.
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

I knew I was staying away from this thread for a reason!  All this talk of diners!  I was telling my BF the other night about how much I missed the diners in New Jersey.  You can't go anywhere in NJ without coming across about 5000 diners.

What I wouldn't do for a stack of pancakes with scrambled eggs and crispy bacon.  I also miss bagel shops and delis where I can get a real sub or an egg and cheese on an everything bagel.

Now I think I'm going to have to make one tomorrow morning!  :)
