if I had to guess a reason why calling flannelette "flannel" is illegal (and I've seen no proof anywhere that it is), it would probably be that proper flannel is usually made of wool, whereas flannelette is usually made of cotton (and therefore presumably cheaper).

Have a look at Dunelm Mill. I find they're good quality but so much cheaper than other places.

I just finally found some flannel duvet covers from https://www.linencupboard.co.uk after a frustrating hunt.  Why doesn't Garnet Hill mail to the UK????

Overstock.com has flannel sheets but presumably they're sized for American beds, not UK ones

Thanks for the QVC lol I ordered a sheet today because of this thread - I had been thinking about them and I wanted my snowflake ones from  Sears but the mark up was insane!!!

We have some made by Dorma which came from Debenham's as a wedding present nearly 5 years ago and a set bought more recently at Aldi.  I know Dunelm Mills carries Dorma stuff too - worth checking them

Funny, I just commented that one of the things I was happy for today were my "flannel sheets".  I bought them from the McKays in our town a few years ago and I think they were called "flannelette" or maybe "brushed cotton"?  They're thick, soft, warm and wonderful!  :)

I think I would burn up, sleeping in/on flannel sheets!  I get too hot now (yes, even in this weather) with just regular cotton bedding.  :P

I'm generally cold in bed, but I couldn't sleep in flannel/flannette/wincyette sheets in a million years! The feel of them kind of creeps me out! I like smooth billion-thread-count cotton!  ;D

No, winceyette isn't really the same as US flannel. When I first moved over I went in search of flannel PJ's and all they had (even in M&S) was winceyette. Even the name is a put-off.  I ended up getting my mother to send me an old pair of my father's flannel PJs!
Back in those days a lot of people had brushed nylon sheets! These were supposed to be good because they would dry fast. But really creepy feeling in my estimation. Don't know if they still have those.
