Flannel Sheets...
« on: December 15, 2010, 06:51:31 PM »
The recent bout of fah-reeeezing weather has left me wanting some nice flannel sheets for my bed.  The problem is I'm not sure where to find them.  My BF is not entirely sure what I mean when I say flannel sheets, so he's no help.  ;)

I have looked on a couple of department store websites (John Lewis and M&S) and have not really come up with much.  I checked Amazon as well and that showed "flannelette" sheets.  Are these the same thing?  Anyone have any advice on where to look or brands to seek out?

I just want to be cozy!  :)

ETA: I wasn't sure where to put this thread, so feel free to move it if it needs moving!

Not sure how true it is, but according to Wikipedia, it's illegal for the fabric to be sold as 'flannel' in the UK!  Lol!

Seems that flannelette and wincyette are indeed the UK's 'flannel'.

Hahaha, I would be interested to hear the story behind that one!

"wincyette" is not even remotely close to anything I would have guessed.  I'm glad I asked, thanks guys!  :)

I did a quick search for wincyette sheets, however, and came up empty. You may have better luck. Although, I did find wincyette fabric for sale, so you could always go pioneer woman and make your own!  ;D

Might be something utterly boring like a trademark issue or something?  Everywhere that talks about its being illegal also states 'citation needed' - so it may not even be true.  :P

Aw thanks!  I'm no pioneer woman, but that wouldn't stop me from trying.  If worse came to worst, I'd probably be just as happy rolling myself up in it like a burrito.  :D

Interesting.  I searched online, but didn't see anything concrete or reputable as to the legality of flannel in the UK...  wonder where that idea came from, haha!

I guess that explains my confusion.  Hubby (& his family) call a washcloth a 'flannel' - which has always totally perplexed me.  ???

Don't know if that's a northern/Yorkshire/Leeds thing or that's consistent throughout the UK.

I'm from Wales and we call it a flannel too.
