Montessori Schools?
« on: December 16, 2010, 10:56:39 PM »
My husband and I are moving to the East Midlands (Derbyshire/Nottingham) this spring, and I'm trying to get a head start on finding a preschool for our daughter.  Anyone know of good Montessori preschools in this area?

Thanks!

Don't know anything about the playgroups or preschools in that area but:

http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/Ofsted-home/Inspection-reports  will give you OFSTED inspection reports - you want early years, on non-domestic premises.

How old is your daughter? If she turned three before Sept 1 of this year she'd be in what is termed her Nursery Year and could attend either a Nursery class that is attached to a primary school or a preschool/playgroup.

Thank you, that is helpful!  I'm just starting to understand OFSTED and what to look for with it.  Our daughter turned 3 in April, she'll be 4 by the time we move, so it sounds like she'll have a few options.

So, playgroup obviously has a different meaning here.  I'm used to it being casual, mums in the neighborhood type thing.  Sounds like it means schooling here.  What would the term be for getting together with other mums for a playdate?

If she's 4, won't she be starting reception?
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

She'd be in reception in September, if they were looking for a setting right away when they move it'd be nursery year.

Yeah the terminology can be confusing can't it?  School Nursery, Playgroup, Day Nursery, or Preschool all will offer provision for three year olds under the same curriculum called the Early Years Foundation Stage (which also covers Reception year).  It's all based on learning through play so not really "schooling" per se.  Not as formalized, if you see what I mean.  If you have any questions on that, feel free to PM me.

Getting together with other mums is called things like Mums & Tots groups or baby group or toddler group.  The Netmums website will list any in the area.
