Aww, thanks so much for all your nice comments everybody!!!
Do you get slugs?
There are tons of snails on the garden barges, but they don't tend to jump ship and climb onto our decks. We're encouraged by the gardener (she tends to the garden barges in the spring/summer/fall) to kill as many snails as possible, though. And after you've felt the sickening crunch of a snail underfoot at night a few times, you start relishing chucking them in the river for that satisfying "plop" noise instead!
I feel inspired to try and grow some tomatillos!
They were really very easy, but you need two things: 1) somewhere very warm to grow them when they're little. Our wheelhouse is an AWESOME greenhouse replacement for seedlings, and then I transplanted mine outside in early May when the last frost was done. And 2) lots of canes, because they grow ridiculously tall! I grew a few seedlings for my friend this year, and hers did really well in her garden in Surrey, too. We both had more than we could eat, and bags in the freezer, too!
