9 year old in Scotland
« on: December 26, 2010, 09:33:51 PM »
Hi All,

Wel, we are beginning the adventure of our lives! My family and I will spend at leats 2 years in the UK, maybe up to 5 depending on visas and my new job....I was just wondering if anyone out there had experience bringing a primary school-age child over to the UK and back to the states.  My son is on 3rd grade now and we will be going mid-year to Scotland.  If we stay 3-5 years, what can we expect coming back to the US?  Will he maintain his progression through the US school system, or will he come back with the wrong qualifications in any way?

We are moving to Glasgow and there does not seem to be an American School in the city like there is in London.

Thanks for any tips!

Don

My son just turned 8, and was supposed to start 2nd grade in the states, but due to circumstances he's started school here in the UK.  I had a talk with his teacher, and it seems to me the schools out here are a bit ahead of the schools in California.  However, she assured me that he won't in any way be behind or held back for his time here.  Now, that's only for this year, I'm not sure how a prolong period of time would effect him. Might be worth having the same conversation with his teachers. Good luck- hope things work out for you.
We stole countries with the cunning use of flags. Just sail around the world and stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain!" They're going "You can't claim us, we live here! Five hundred million of us!" "Do you have a flag …? "What? We don't need a flag, this is our home, you bastards" "No flag, No Country, You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!...and I'm backing it up with this gun, that was lent to me from the National Rifle Association."
