Any nice places in Europe/U.K/anywhere on that side of the pond that anyone can recommend? We're a group of 23-25 year olds :) Someplace to have fun, drink, sightseeing, that sort of thing. I think Northern Italy around Lake Maggiore and Lake Cuomo is heaven. There are actually quite a few small hotels that aren't very expensive. It's like being in a movie....

I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

You have allll of Europe at your fingertips!  Things to think about are what sort of budget you have, how long you'd like to stay, and how comfortable you feel when you don't speak the local language.

If you don't mind being "snug" there are lots of no-frills airlines that operate out of numerous airports in England (Ryan Air, EasyJet, Jet2, bmibaby, possibly someone else can name some more).  Being on a student budget, I've always just gone with whatever city ends up being cheapest.  It hasn't done me wrong (yet).

Personally, I prefer big cities, since they're vibrant, fun, and there's always something to do!  As far as specific places; I must say my favorite places so far were Madrid and Athens--but we went in the spring when it was a bit warmer.  Rome was too tourist-y for me, but one of the things I love most about travelling is trying the local cuisine.  So definitely wherever you end up going, try to immerse yourself into your chosen destination's culture, by watching what the locals do/ordering what the locals order. Either way, I'm sure a group of 23-25 year olds will have an absolute blast!

thanks!!!! yeah I know, theres like TONS to do and places to see. so we have to figure out things. yes i've heard of a couple of those airlines though. student budget is definitely what we have, we can't afford really expensive things, and well even though i'm the only student here in our group, their budget might as well be the same as mine if i'm being honest with you. oh my gosh athens? that sounds awesome! yes, food is a must for me, I love my food for sure so i'll eat or try things as much as i can :D i do want to go to italy, are there any other places you'd recommend there then? I dont mind toursity, but I'd like to be able to spend a couple days in each place so ic an do touristy for a short amount of time :)

Barcelona is a great place to go for a long weekend. It has everything you're looking for - excellent touristy things, food, drink, shopping, and nightlife. It's not very expensive (at least it wasn't for us coming from Dublin). There's public transport to and from the airport and the city has great public transport for getting around town, so no need to rent a car.

I agree Italy is a good choice, and it can be cheap.

What about a flight to Rome, it's an awesome city. So much to see and do. You can also catch a 2 hour train to Naples, have a pizza where it was born, and from Naples you can do day trips to Amalfi Coast/Positano/Sorrento, Capri, Pompeii, or even go climb Mt Vesuvius!  :)

Belgium, but specifically Bruges. We went in November and LOVED it [smiley=smitten.gif]. Not a sign of a McDonalds or Burger King anywhere (we did spot a Pizza hut hidden on back, back street and a Subway - which was always closed...) All local food and the beer was lovely. VERY walkable and just really amazing. We cant wait to go back.

We went via EuroStar and you can get tix in advance for as little as £69 with return per person.
