moving dog from uk to france
« on: January 06, 2011, 06:17:23 PM »
Hello
We are moving from the UK to Italy with our dog via France and I was wondering if anyone has done this.  Or gone on holiday to France with their dog.  We took the QM2 with her from the US to here several months ago so she has had all the shots etc to get here successfully.  Now she has her pet passport and is ready to go.  I am getting mixed messages from the French consulate and what she needs.  I assume just the passport is fine but does it need to be translated and/or does she need another form?
We will be taking the trains and the ferry as we dont want to fly her.

Thank you.

Hiya

We go back and forth between France and England with our English dog and our French cat a couple of times a year. We drive and then go by ferry. In the last few years it has become much less complicated. We just hand over their passports and then (but not always) they hand us the chip reader to scan each pet. Of course all their vaccinations are up to date.

We are given a special card hanger to hang from the rear-view mirror of the car, to indicate there is an animal on board. When you make your ferry reservations you pay extra for transporting a pet on board (although I can't remember if you pay from the UK to France). Your pet must stay in the car (without you).

If you do return to the UK, there are other requirements for worms and ticks, so be sure to read up.

It's all very simple, so don't worry.

Thanks so much for the info.  I was so worried that she might need to have the passport translated into French!  But since I see nothing that says that I am not going to worry about it.  She is all in order after coming from the US!
