Stupid Oyster question - zones for buses?

If I want to get an annual Oyster card, how do I figure out what zones I use for buses?

To get to work, I take a bus to the Underground station, then use the Underground from there on in.  I use zones 1 - 3 for the Underground; however, I don't know what zones my bus route passes through.  I didn't see any mention of bus zones on the London Transport page - do buses even have zones?  Or does an annual Oyster cover all buses in the London area and you only choose the Underground zones you wish to use?

Buses don't have zones, they're a flat fee, get on whenever, get off whenever.  You don't have to pay for buses when you have a season ticket. On London buses any travelcard can be used on any route.

Cheesebiscuit, maybe you could clarify something.  When I go to London, I always buy a day travelcard from a tube station.  Does this work on buses as well?  If so, how do I use it?  I've always been a bit hesitant to try the buses because I know the drivers can be a bit sharp with people who try to board without a ticket.  Help?  Thanks!

It does indeed You need to get on at the front and hold it up to the driver, don't let go, just flash it at him so he can read the date, he'll nod at you and click his thing which says a travelcard holder has got on. If you get on the river service you can show the guy and get 33% off as well.

If you're getting on a bendy bus you can't get on in the middle, you need to get on at the front and show it to the driver who probably wont look at it

When I'm in England and go into London, sometimes I buy a day trip ticket from Kent into London that includes unlimited tube for the day.  Do you know if this also includes the bus as well?  I think it's fantastic that they include all of it in one ticket and I really wish that NJ Transit/LIRR/MetroNorth/PATH and NYC Transit could work out for New York!

Yes, it does include the bus. It's just a normal travelcard you're purchasing on top of your train ticket from Kent. You'd follow the same practise of showing the driver your ticket on boarding the bus.
