I think you'll find very few Americans who find it offensive to be called a yank or yankee.

Unless you're from the South!   [smiley=laugh4.gif]

Believe me, I get the sentiment of wanting to live somewhere new and fun and interesting -and a new country! Whee! Afterall, I picked up and moved the other side of the world by myself. And it's been fantastic.  I really, truly had no idea what I was getting myself into, because other than 2 days here when I interviewed for my job, I hadn't visited, didn't know anyone, didn't have a clue. Jumped in head first! Haven't looked back.  Is the grass greener here? (Yeah, it rains. A lot. lol).  Well lots of pros, but I have several cons I can easily list as well.  Life is what you make it to be!! But it was my dream to live in Scotland for ages and ages and so I did tons of research to see if I could make it happen. And I was able to!
So- explore your options, see if you can make it happen!  Check out the British expats or the Dive into American forums, check out your visa options, give it a go!
Do you want to be a student again? Student life may not be permanent, but it sure gives you chance to experience life in another country and it often opens up paths to others options.

Good luck!!!

Hi Bored Brit!  Welcome to the forum!  I think you need a holiday!  ;D

Why not take a holiday in the US - just as a starting point?  It'd be a bit of the adventure you're seeking & gets you over there for a little while.

I agree with those who have said you might have a hard time getting a work visa for the US.  Believe it or not, it's not easy to immigrate over here (to the UK) and it's even harder to immigrate to the US.

If you're looking to meet American women, I'm sure there must be websites out there - dating websites, penpal websites, British men & American websites - there's a website for just about everything!  Lol!

Or if nothing else, how about seeing a little more of this fine country right here (yes oop norf & all)?  And I'm surprised that no one has mentioned taking a look at this thread yet:

So this country actually has quite a lot going for it.

And, life in the US really isn't Friends.  There's also a lot of really poor people there, health care is super-duper expensive unless you have insurance, public transport can be fairly non-existent apart from the large cities, generally speaking - most people don't tend to get very many annual leave days from work, and many of us (who are living happily over here in the UK) feel that US may have the work/life balance wrong.  Lots of threads on here about the Pros & Cons of the US vs the UK.

Lots of stuff to think about!  :)
