Both Names on Tax Credit Papers
« on: January 24, 2011, 10:36:50 AM »
My DH receives child benefit and child tax credits.  These go directly into his account and are his claim (which I know is fine).  The other day I was thinking about the fact that the actual mail is in both our names (for one so I can call and discuss the account with the office if I need to...and also so we could have mail with both our names on it).

Is this going to look like I am receiving the benefit (which I know I'm not entitled to)?  If it's a problem I can have my name removed and ask the office to send a letter stating that I don't receive the benefit and the claim is in my husband's name only (they're surprisingly quite friendly there).  Or am I just being paranoid?

BTW...this is in reference to applying for my ILR.

The Brit has to make the claim in their name, but their OH has to have their name on the claim (it's fraud if they don't as they are then claiming to be single, which they aren't). Your OH has done his claim correctly.

OK...we had to call to ask them to add my name to the mailing address (so we could use it later on as proof that we lived together) so I wasn't sure if that would make it appear I was in receipt of the benefits.

No issues here. Don't worry about it.
