Moving from TX in a few weeks
« on: February 26, 2011, 02:59:21 PM »
Howdy!

My family and I will be moving to the London area in a few weeks.  My husband's job is transferring us so my son can receive medical treatment that is not available in the US.  He is 8 and has Duchenne muscular dystrophy.  We also have 2 other children, a daughter 12 and another son 8 (twins).  We really don't know where we'll be living exactly.  DH works for a financial firm.  I believe the tube stop is Liverpool Street.  He's hoping to keep his commute to an hour or less.  Would love some recommendations on where to live.  We also have the additional challenge of requiring a single story home.  My son with Duchenne is unable to do stairs.  Add in a low housing budget and I think we're going to have quite the search on our hands.

Any recommendations on housing and schooling?

TIA!
Laurie

If you haven't already, contact a real estate agent over here and email them to have them look for a few places for you. They can really help if you can find a good one. Try a few different ones and tell them what you need. The type of hpuse you are looking for is called a bungalow(single floor). My husbands friend lives in an apartment in surrey and even though he is within walking distance of the train, to get into central London you have to change trains and that can be a hassle depending on how mobile your son is and if you have to take several trips(45 minutes). I am not sure about schools but the estate agent will know.Hope this helps.
